Gillis Emanuel Grafström (7 June 1893 – 14 April 1938) was a Swedish figure skater. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden. [1] He won three successive Olympic gold medals in Men's Figure Skating (1920, 1924, 1928) as well as an Olympic silver medal in the same event in 1932, and three World Championships (1922, 1924, 1929). Gillis Emanuel Grafström, född 7 juni 1893 i Stockholm, död 14 april 1938 i Potsdam, [1] var en svensk konståkare. Han tog bland annat tre olympiska guldmedaljer, något han är ensam om bland manliga skridskoåkare. Grafström uppfann piruetten som är uppkallad efter honom, samt ”the flying sit spin”. [2]
3 giorni fa · Biography. A record number of medals. He earned more Olympic medals than any figure skater in history. In 1920, the six judges gave Grafström a unanimous victory. In 1924, he edged Willy Böckl for a second gold medal and in 1928 he won an even narrower victory over Böckl for a third.
He is the only skater to win medals at four Olympic Games. Grafström competed at his first World Championships in 1914, placing seventh, and won the first title after World War I in his home town of Stockholm.
