Ralph Vaughan Williams was not only a composer of the utmost importance for English music but also one of the great symphonists of the 20th century. He was born on 12 October 1872 in the Cotswold village of Down Ampney, where his father was vicar.
Vaughan Williams was the musical editor of the English Hymnal of 1906, and the co-editor with Martin Shaw of Songs of Praise of 1925 and the Oxford Book of Carols of 1928, all in collaboration with Percy Dearmer.
Compositore inglese, nato a Down Ampney (Gloucestershire) il 12 ottobre 1872. Studiò la musica a Cambridge con Ch. Wood e al Royal College of Music di Londra con sir Hubert Parry e sir Charles Stanford. Fu anche a Berlino e Parigi dove ebbe lezioni rispettivamente da Max Bruch e da Maurice Ravel.
