  5. Arthur Nebe was born on November 13, 1894, in Berlin. He volunteered for military service fighting in the 17th Pioneer Battalion during World War I, where he was wounded twice by poison-gas. In 1920, Nebe was accepted into the criminal police and, in 1923, he became a criminal police commander.
