An ex-cop, Pete Dalmas, is pursuing a drug runner Mr Big. He visits another ex-cop, Rojack, who has become a drug addict. Rojack gives him a lead to a drug dealer called the Plastic Man.

What follows is both literal and metaphorical mayhem as the boundaries of the film start collapsing and our idea of what's real is pushed to its very limits.
Dalmas plot. Former cop Pete Dalmas gets a tip from a drug addict about a dealer named the Plastic Man. Dalmas follows the Plastic Man to a camp on the coast. There the film changes the subject: the director and the actors talk about making films and using drugs.
