He's shot someone at the beginning of the movie, but the viewer is firmly on his side, hoping for a good outcome for him. Somewhat early in the movie there's a scene where he shoots pool. He's quite good. Most of the movie features the relationship between Janssen's wealthy businessman character and Kotto's cabbie.
