The Only Son (一人息子, Hitori musuko) is a 1936 Japanese film directed by Yasujirō Ozu, starring Chōko Iida and Shin'ichi Himori. The film was Ozu's first sound film feature.

It's one of those films that forces the viewer to re-examine their lifestyle and values, at least the ones taken for granted in the developed world.
