The Big Thing is a Canadian short black comedy film, directed by Carl Laudan and released in 2004. The film imagines the end of the world in 1889, at the hands of Lucifer (Robin Wilcock) and Michael (Andrew Simms). The film was a Genie Award nominee for Best Live Action Short Drama at the 26th Genie Awards in 2006.

Originariamente l'uscita del film era prevista per l'aprile 2011, ma la Universal Picturesha posticipato l'uscita al 14 ottobre 2011, per avere il tempo di effettuare nuove riprese. In Italia il film è stato distribuito dal 27 giugno 2012.
Il film, costato 38 milioni di dollari, ne ha incassati globalmente solo 31 (di cui 17 negli Stati Uniti), risultando quindi un insuccesso commerciale.
