American Tragedy is a 2000 American television film broadcast on CBS from November 12, 2000, to November 15, 2000, that is based on the O. J. Simpson murder case for the 1994 murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY, from award-winning filmmaker, Lisa Rhoden Boyd (POTOSI GOD IN DEATH ROW), follows Jeffery Ferguson in the final days before his execution. It is the story of one man’s journey to death and another man’s journey to forgive.
The project then went to Sternberg, who streamlined and rearranged the elements of literary naturalism, centering his film on the erotic lure of class rise and the irresolute cowardice of its hero (Phillips Holmes) and his victim’s need to trust in love (a devastatingly vulnerable Sylvia Sydney).
