Joseph Russel Robinson (July 8, 1892 – September 30, 1963) was an American ragtime, dixieland, and blues pianist and composer. He was a member of the Original Dixieland Jass Band . Career. Robinson was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. In his teens he worked as a pianist in theaters to provide music for silent movies.
In 1963 J. Russel Robinson died at age 71 after a brief bout with complications from lung cancer, the result of a life-long smoking habit. In his obituary, it was Gertrude who was referenced as his widow, along with their married daughter, now Theresa Duffie. It is unclear if they had got back together at some point.
"Singin' the Blues" is a 1920 jazz composition by J. Russel Robinson, Con Conrad, Sam M. Lewis, and Joe Young. It was recorded by the Original Dixieland Jass Band in 1920 as an instrumental and released as a Victor 78 as part of a medley with "Margie". The song was released with lyrics by vocalist Aileen Stanley in 1920 on Victor.
J. Russel Robinson was born on 8 July 1892 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. He was an actor, known for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Tolkien (2019) and Bullets Over Broadway (1994). He died on 30 September 1963 in Palmdale, California, USA.
