Biografia. Nato a Londra da madre inglese e padre belga, si è inserito nella scena jazz europea negli anni '60 suonando con Dexter Gordon, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Richard Galliano, Charles Mingus, Charlie Mariano, Stéphane Grappelli, Toots Thielemans, Robert Wyatt, Jean-Luc Ponty, Larry Coryell, Carla Bley e altri. Philip Catherine was born in London, England, to an English mother and Belgian father, and was raised in Brussels, Belgium. His grandfather was a violinist in the London Symphony Orchestra. Catherine started on guitar in his teens, and by seventeen he was performing professionally at local venues.
Philip Catherine has been on the forefront of the European jazz scene since the sixties. His work great artists like Chet Baker, NHOP, Stéphane Grappelli, Charles Mingus, Dexter Gordon, Larry Coryell, Tom Harrell, his unique approach and sound, his dedication to music have been important and influential.
