Yakubu Dan-Yumma "Jack" Gowon GCFR (born 19 October 1934) is a Nigerian general and statesman who led the Federal military government war efforts during the Nigerian Civil War. He served in this role as military leader and as head of state of Nigeria.

Yakuba Gowon is a Nigerian military leader who served as head of state from 1966 until 1975, when he was removed in a bloodless coup. He presided over the country during Biafra’s attempt to secede from Nigeria and the ensuing war (1967–70).
