Massue began his career as aide-de-camp to Marshal Turenne (1672–75), then went on diplomatic mission to England (1678).

News. Massue. The Earl of Galway (1648-1720) was Henri de Massue de Ruvigny. Henri fought for the British Army at the Battle of the Boyne and founded the military refugee community at Portarlington. Henri also gave an address on behalf of the Huguenot community to King George I, congratulating him on establishing the Protestant succession.
Galway facilitated the Huguenot settlement in Lisburn and ensured it received its first payments. This portrait shows Galway in his later years and may have been painted when he returned to Ireland as Lord Justice in 1714–1715. His portrait is on currently on display in the Museum’s Assembly Room.
