Tommy Ray Franks (born June 17, 1945) is a retired United States Army general. His last army post was as the Commander of the United States Central Command, overseeing United States military operations in a 25-country region, including the Middle East.

13 giu 2024 · Tommy Franks (born June 17, 1945, Wynnewood, Okla., U.S.) is an American general who, as commander in chief of Central Command (Centcom; 2000–03), led U.S. forces in the overthrow of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan (2001) and of Ṣaddām Ḥussein in Iraq (2003).
General Franks serves on the boards of the University of Texas, Arlington and William Penn University. He is Co-Chair of the Flight 93 memorial foundation and serves as an Advisor to the Military Child Education Coalition, Operation Homefront Oklahoma, and the Southeastern Guide Dog Organization.
He is a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In 2004, President George W. Bush awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. General Franks retired on July 7, 2003 after a change of command ceremony in Tampa, Florida.
