Maximilian Ulysses, Reichsgraf Browne was a field marshal, one of Austria’s ablest commanders during the War of the Austrian Succession (1740–48) and the Seven Years’ War (1756–63), who nevertheless suffered defeat by Frederick II the Great of Prussia.

Con lo scopo di prestare aiuto agli alleati sassoni, gli austriaci inviarono un corpo di spedizione guidato dal feldmaresciallo Maximilian Ulysses Browne, che tuttavia venne intercettato dalle truppe di Federico nei pressi della cittadina di Lobositz (in ceco Lovosice) lungo le rive del fiume Elba.

BROWNE, Maximilian Ulysses, Count von (1705-57). An Austrian field-marshal, son of an expatriated Irish Jacobite. He was born in Basel, entered the Austrian service in 1717, and after fighting against the Turks (1737-39), served in Silesia.
The siege of Antibes took place in the winter of 1746–47, during the War of the Austrian Succession. A combined Austro - Savoyard army, commanded by Maximilian Ulysses Browne, invaded France and laid siege to Antibes on the French Mediterranean coast.
