Wilhelm Stoph (9 July 1914 – 13 April 1999) was a German politician. He served as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the German Democratic Republic ( East Germany) from 1964 to 1973, and again from 1976 until 1989. He also served as chairman of the State Council from 1973 to 1976.
Willi Stoph (* 9. Juli 1914 in Berlin-Schöneberg; † 13. April 1999 in Berlin) war ein deutscher Politiker der DDR, der ab 1953 dem Politbüro der SED angehörte. Von 1952 bis 1955 war er Innen- und von 1955 bis 1960 Verteidigungsminister.

Willi Stoph (1914-1999) was a prominent leader of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) from 1964 to 1989. He served as chairman of the Council of Ministers and head of state, but was overshadowed by the general secretaries of the ruling SED, Ulbricht and Honecker.
He was personally involved in the early negotiations between East and West Germany, nevertheless, his influence had been limited. Also, in later years, his footprint is hard to discover. Stoph’s remarks in the “Small Circle” remained within the party line.
