Biografia. Proveniente da una nobile famiglia della Champagne , in gioventù fu condannato al carcere per un reato veniale. Fu rilasciato su sollecitazione della duchessa d'Orleans (1677 - 1749), figlia legittima di Luigi XIV e Madame de Montespan . È la moglie del futuro reggente Philippe d'Orléans . È quindi una buona protettrice in tribunale.
