In this article are presented two marble epigraphs preserved in the Capitoline Museums, one that mentions King Jan III Sobieski, and the other dedicated to his wife Maria Casimira, along with other iconographic and documentary material related to the Sobieski in Rome in the archival heritage of the Sovrintendenza Capitolina.
Maria Clementina Sobieska was the last widely recognised Stuart queen, albeit in exile, and mother to the final generation of the Stuart dynasty. Examining the material and visual culture surrounding her funeral and afterlife, this chapter reinstates Clementina in Jacobite and Stuart history.
