He was the son of Oleg Sviatoslavich, Prince of Chernigov (c. 1052 - 1115) daughter of Asaduk, Khan of the Cumans.

Oleg was a younger son of Sviatoslav II Yaroslavich / Prince of Chernigov (1027 - 1076) by his first wife, Killikiya.
