Gytha Thorkelsdóttir (c. 997 – c. 1069), also called Githa, was a Danish noblewoman. She was the wife of Godwin, Earl of Wessex, and the mother of King Harold Godwinson and Edith of Wessex, the latter of whom was the queen consort of King Edward the Confessor.
9 apr 2006 · Gytha Thorkelsdottir (Old English: Gȳða Þorkelsdōttir), also called Githa, was the daughter of Thorgil Sprakling (also called Thorkel).[1] She married the Anglo-Saxon nobleman Godwin of Wessex. They had a large family together, of whom five sons became earls at one time or another, three remaining earls in 1066:

Gytha Thorkelsdottir (997-1069) was the wife of Godwin, Earl of Wessex and the mother of Harold Godwinson. Gytha Thorkelsdottir was the daughter of Thorgil Sprakling and the sister of Ulf the Earl, and she married the Anglo-Saxon nobleman Godwin, Earl of Wessex and had a large family.
Edith, era la figlia di Godwin del Wessex, il conte più potente d' Inghilterra, e di sua moglie, Gytha Thorkelsdaettir, sorella di Ulf, un conte danese che era il cognato di Canuto il Grande. Appartenenva dunque alla dinastia Godwin. Edith fu allevata all' Abbazia di Wilton.
