Sir John Carew Eccles AC FRS FRACP FRSNZ FAA (27 January 1903 – 2 May 1997) was an Australian neurophysiologist and philosopher who won the 1963 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on the synapse.

Sir John Carew Eccles was an Australian research physiologist who received (with Alan Hodgkin and Andrew Huxley) the 1963 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the chemical means by which impulses are communicated or repressed by nerve cells (neurons).

Neurofisiologo australiano, nato a Melbourne il 27 gennaio 1903. Laureatosi in medicina a Melbourne (1925), proseguì gli studi a Oxford sotto la guida di Sir C. Sherrington, laureandosi in scienze naturali e conseguendo (1931) il Ph. D.; sino al 1937 svolse attività di ricerca, e d'insegnamento, presso il Magdalen College.
