Hermann Carl Vogel (Lipsia, 3 aprile 1841 – Potsdam, 13 agosto 1907) è stato un astronomo tedesco. Fu uno dei pionieri nell'uso dello spettroscopio in astronomia ed utilizzò questo strumento per analizzare le atmosfere planetarie del Sistema Solare .
Hermann Carl Vogel ( / ˈfoʊɡəl /; German: [ˈfoːɡl̩]; 3 April 1841 – 13 August 1907) was a German astrophysicist. He was born in Leipzig, Kingdom of Saxony. From 1882 to 1907 he was director of the Astrophysical Observatory, Potsdam. He made extensive discoveries using spectral analysis of the stars.

Astronomo (Lipsia 1841 - Potsdam 1907); lavorò presso le specole di Johannitstal, di Bothkamp, e infine (1882) diresse l' osservatorio astrofisico di Potsdam, da lui stesso fondato (1874), curandone i primi 15 volumi delle Publikationen.
Astronomo, nato a Lipsia il 3 aprile 1842, morto a Potsdam il 13 agosto 1907. Compì gli studî al politecnico di Dresda, poi a Lipsia, dove divenne assistente di Carl Bruhns nel nuovo osservatorio in Johannistal. Nel 1868 si laureò a Jena con una tesi sulla determinazione micrometrica delle posizioni delle nebulose e degli ammassi stellari.
Vogel was a pioneer in the use of astronomical spectroscopy and photography. He measured the solar rotation and showed that the solar photosphere shared the rotational motion inferred from sunspots observations.
Vogel made spectroscopic analyses of stars, planets, comets, and the sun. He was the first to demonstrate the sun’s rotation by measuring Doppler shifts of its receding and approaching limbs. He made detailed tables of the solar spectrum and attempted spectral classification of stars.
