John Edensor Littlewood FRS (9 June 1885 – 6 September 1977) was a British mathematician. He worked on topics relating to analysis, number theory, and differential equations and had lengthy collaborations with G. H. Hardy, Srinivasa Ramanujan and Mary Cartwright.

John Edensor Littlewood was born at Rochester on 9 June 1885, the eldest son of Edward Thornton Littlewood and Sylvia Maud, daughter of Dr William Henry and Sophia Ackland (nee Lott).
After 1900, the principal architect of an English school of mathematical analysis was G. H. Hardy (1877-1947). In strengthening the foundations and building on them he found a partner in the subject of this memoir, J. E. Littlewood (1885-1977).
