George Porter, Baron Porter of Luddenham, OM, FRS, FRSE (6 December 1920 – 31 August 2002) was a British chemist. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1967.
George Porter Jr. (born December 26, 1947) is an American musician, best known as the bassist and singer of the Meters. Along with Art Neville, Porter formed the group in the mid 1960s and came to be recognized as one of the progenitors of funk. The Meters disbanded in 1977, but reformed in 1989.

Along with Art Neville, Leo Nocentelli and Zigaboo Modeliste, New Orleans R&B bassist George Porter, Jr. was a founding member of the Meters, New Orleans' premier funk band of the '60s and '70s.
George Porter, barone Porter di Luddenham (Stainforth, 6 dicembre 1920 – 31 agosto 2002), è stato un chimico britannico. Nato a Stainforth, nel South Yorkshire , vinse una borsa di studio e frequentò nel 1938 l' Università di Leeds conseguendo la laurea in chimica.
Biographical. George Porter was born in the West Riding of Yorkshire on the 6th December 1920. He married Stella Jean Brooke on the 25th August 1949 and they have two sons, John and Andrew. His first education was at local primary and grammar schools and in 1938 he went, as Ackroyd Scholar, to Leeds University.
