Jan Hendrik Oort ForMemRS (/ ˈ ɔːr t / or / ˈ ʊər t /; 28 April 1900 – 5 November 1992) was a Dutch astronomer who made significant contributions to the understanding of the Milky Way and who was a pioneer in the field of radio astronomy.
Astronomo (Franeker, Olanda, 1900 - ivi 1992), fu dal 1935 direttore dell' osservatorio di Leida e prof. di astronomia in quell'univ.; accademico pontificio (1961) e socio straniero dei Lincei (1961). Dal 1958 al 1961 fu presidente dell'Unione astronomica internazionale.
