Ole Rømer (born September 25, 1644, Århus, Jutland—died September 23, 1710, Copenhagen) was a Danish astronomer who demonstrated conclusively that light travels at a finite speed. Rømer went to Paris in 1672, where he spent nine years working at the Royal Observatory.

In 1676, the Danish astronomer Ole Roemer (1644–1710) became the first person to measure the speed of light. Roemer measured the speed of light by timing eclipses of Jupiter's moon Io.
