Nel 1985, Mattel lanciò Iridella, una bambola che avrebbe dato vita a una delle serie animate più affascinanti dell'epoca. In Italia, Iridella ebbe un notevole successo, ma il suo potenziale merchandising e l'immagine di Rainbow Brite (il nome originale) non furono sfruttati appieno come accadde negli Stati Uniti.
