Introducing Hadleigh, a dynamic man of charm, sharp intellect and wealth. Here we find Hadleigh torn between a tempting offer from Lord Shawcliffe, an elderly press magnate in search of an heir, and the running of his own provincial newspaper, The Westdale Gazette.
James Hadleigh (Gerald Harper) was the vain, humourless country squire with an over-developed sense of his own importance who owned stately Melford Park – and who had previously been seen as the proprietor of a country newspaper in the Yorkshire Television series Gazette.
