He lived in Tournai and in Brussels, where his name was translated into Dutch as Rogier van der Weyden, and where he died on 18 June 1464. His most famous works, enormous panels of "Scenes of Justice" in the Town Hall of Brussels, were destroyed in 1695 during the French bombardment of the city.
