Enciclopedia on line. Liutaio (Mirecourt, Vosgi, 1798 - Les Ternes 1875). Studiò con il padre Claude. Lavorò poi a Parigi nelle botteghe Chanot e Leté. Nel 1828 aprì bottega propria dedicandosi soprattutto all'imitazione degli Stradivari e di altri celebri liutai. Fu abilissimo in questa sua produzione, tanto da generare frequenti equivoci.

Il fut non seulement l'un des meilleurs luthiers français du XIX e siècle [1], [2], [3] mais aussi un personnage-clef de la lutherie. Sa vision était l'éthique et la beauté de l'école de Crémone.
