Frans Floris, Frans Floris the Elder or Frans Floris de Vriendt (17 April 1519 – 1 October 1570) [1] was a Flemish painter, draughtsman, print artist and tapestry designer. He is mainly known for his history paintings, allegorical scenes and portraits. [2]

Life dates. 1519/1520-1570. Biography. Painter and designer, brother of Cornelis (q.v.). Born in Antwerp; 1538 visited in Liège Lambert Lombard (q.v.); 1540-1 in Antwerp; then in Italy c.1541-1546. On return to Antwerp worked as painter with very high reputation, and designed many prints for Cock.
