Goupil & Cie. Anthonij "Anton" Rudolf Mauve (18 September 1838 – 5 February 1888) was a Dutch realist painter who was a leading member of the Hague School. He signed his paintings 'A. Mauve' or with a monogrammed 'A.M.'. A master colorist, he was a very significant early influence on his cousin-in-law Vincent van Gogh .

Anton Mauve. Antonij (Anton) Mauve (1838-1888) was born in Zaandam. At 16, he went to Haarlem where he was apprenticed to Pieter Frederik van Os, a specialist in painting cattle, followed by Wouter Verschuur who painted horses. Mauve and Paul Gabriel often went into the country to paint from nature.

Anton Mauve (born September 18, 1838, Zaandam, Netherlands—died February 5, 1888, Arnhem) was a Dutch Romantic painter who, like his friends Jozef Israëls and the three Maris brothers, was profoundly influenced by the French landscape painter Camille Corot and the Barbizon school.
