Poeta tedesco (Ehrenbreitstein s. Reno 1778 - Aschaffenburg 1842). Di padre italiano e di madre tedesca, studiò a Halle e a Jena, dove strinse amicizia con i romantici L. Tieck e F. Schlegel. In questo periodo pubblicò una commedia satirica ( Gustav Wasa, 1800) e un romanzo ( Godwi, 2 voll., 1801-1802) che già rivela il suo talento lirico.
