James Mill (born James Milne; 6 April 1773 – 23 June 1836) was a Scottish historian, economist, political theorist and philosopher. He is counted among the founders of the Ricardian school of economics. He also wrote The History of British India (1817) and was one of the prominent historians to take a colonial approach.

Filosofo, storico ed economista inglese, nato a Northwater Bridge il 6 aprile 1773, morto a Londra il 23 giugno 1836. Studiò dapprima lingue classiche e teologia all'università di Edimburgo; poi si recò a Londra, dove si diede al giornalismo, e divenne grande amico di Geremia Bentham, il cui pensiero esercitò vivo influsso sul suo.
