Esponente tra i più rilevanti della storiografia di ispirazione marxista, elaborò un approccio originale che rifiutava il riduzionismo economicista ( The poverty of theory and other essays, 1978), per privilegiare una visione umanistica, attenta alla ricostruzione della più complessa identità culturale di ogni gruppo sociale.
The Making of the English Working Class [1] is a work of English social history written by E. P. Thompson, a New Left historian. It was first published in 1963 by Victor Gollancz Ltd, [2] and republished in revised form in 1968 by Pelican, [3] after which it became an early Open University set book.
Edward Palmer Thompson was born 3 February 1924, the son of a Methodist missionary who worked for a number of years in India. His American mother had also been a missionary, in the Lebanon.
