21 feb 2023 · Léonie d´Aunet was the first woman in history to visit the Svalbard archipelago. In 1839, it was portrayed as a visit to the North Pole. Although Svalbard is 1,000 kilometres away, the polar ice rim at the time touched the islands and drift ice filled its bays and fjords.
