Biografia. Fu uno degli architetti di maggior rilievo del neoclassicismo inglese e utilizzò un linguaggio formale molto personale, superando, almeno in parte, il tradizionale neopalladianesimo inglese, in uno dei primi tentativi di superamento degli ordini classici. [1]

Sir John Soane RA FSA FRS ( / soʊn /; né Soan; 10 September 1753 – 20 January 1837) was an English architect who specialised in the Neo-Classical style. The son of a bricklayer, he rose to the top of his profession, becoming professor of architecture at the Royal Academy and an official architect to the Office of Works.
Figlio di un modesto costruttore, fin da giovanissimo decise di dedicarsi all'architettura affermandosi anche come studioso e conoscitore degli stili greco, romano, medievale, esotico, tanto da essere collocato, alternativamente, tra i maggiori esponenti inglesi dei movimenti neoclassico, eclettico o pittoresco.
