  7. Mary Gilmore was born Mary Jean Cameron on 16 August 1865, at Mona Vale, near Goulburn, New South Wales. The eldest child of Donald and Mary Ann Cameron, ‘Jeannie’ (as she was known by her family) was less than a year old when the family sold the property and moved west to the prospering region of Wagga Wagga, on the Murrumbidgee River.
