Field Marshal William Edmund Ironside, 1st Baron Ironside, GCB, CMG, DSO (6 May 1880 – 22 September 1959) was a senior officer of the British Army who served as Chief of the Imperial General Staff during the first year of the Second World War.

IRONSIDE, WILLIAM EDMUND, Field Marshall, 1st Baron Ironside of Archangel and Ironside (b. Edinburgh, 6 May 1880; d. London, 22 September 1959), noted for his important role as commander of British forces in Persia in 1920-21.
Edmund Ironside was King of the English from 23 April to 30 November 1016. He fought against the Danish invasion led by Cnut, but was defeated and killed in the same year.
