Pollard’s The Lost Cause: A New Southern History of the War of the Confederates (1866), “Comprising a Full and Authentic Account of the Rise and Progress of the Late Southern Confederacy—The Campaigns, Battles, Incidents, and Adventures of the Most Gigantic Struggle of the World’s History.”
IN 1928 THE SOUTHERN HISTORIAN ULRICH BONNELL PHILLIPS invoked Edward Alfred Pollard's The Lost Cause Regained to support his thesis that the "Central Theme" of dedication to white supremacy made the antebellum and postbellum Souths intrinsically continuous.
