Biografia. Arau nacque a Città del Messico, figlio di un medico. [1] Nel 1965 creò con Ernesto Alonso Los Tepetatles, un gruppo pioniere del rock messicano. Nel 1975 sposò la scrittrice Laura Esquivel; la coppia ebbe due figli: Sergio (musicista) e Fernando (presentatore). Iniziò a lavorare come attore per poi passare alla regia.
Alfonso Arau Incháustegui (born 11 January 1932) is a Mexican filmmaker and actor. He worked as an actor and director in both Mexican and Hollywood productions for over 40 years, before his international breakthrough with the 1992 film Like Water for Chocolate, based on his wife Laura Esquivel's novel of the same name.
