Anita Desai FRSL, born Anita Mazumdar (born 24 June 1937), is an Indian novelist and the Emerita John E. Burchard Professor of Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As a writer she has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize three times.
Anita Desai è nata a Mussoorie in India nel 1937 da madre tedesca e padre bengalese. È cresciuta e ha studiato a Delhi. Vive tra l'India, gli Stati Uniti e il Messico ed è la piú importante scrittrice indiana. Nel 2005 ha ricevuto il Premio Internazionale Grinzane Cavour.
