A Lord Justice of Appeal or Lady Justice of Appeal is a judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales, the court that hears appeals from the High Court of Justice, the Crown Court and other courts and tribunals.
The Court of Appeal is the highest court within the Senior Courts of England and Wales, and deals only with appeals from other courts or tribunals. It is divided into two Divisions, Criminal and Civil, and is based at the Royal Courts of Justice in London.
The Court of Appeal of England and Wales was created in 1875, and is split into 2 permanent Divisions, the Civil Division (which hears family cases as well as a range of civil appeals) and the Criminal Division, which hears appeals against criminal convictions and sentences.
