Isma'il Pasha (Egyptian Arabic: إسماعيل باشا Ismā‘īl Bāshā; 12 January 1830 – 2 March 1895), also known as 'Ismail the Magnificent, was the Khedive of Egypt and ruler of Sudan from 1863 to 1879, when he was removed at the behest of Great Britain and France.

Biografia. Ismāʿīl Rāghib era un suddito greco dell' Impero ottomano [2] [3] [4] [5] per essere nato nell'isola di Chios o a Heraklion ( Creta ). Fu portato in Anatolia e allevato in modo islamico in base all'istituto del devshirme dopo essere stato prelevato dal suo luogo natio in seguito al massacro di Chios.

Ismāʿīl Pasha (born Dec. 31, 1830, Cairo—died March 2, 1895, Istanbul) was the viceroy of Egypt under Ottoman suzerainty, 1863–79, whose administrative policies, notably the accumulation of an enormous foreign debt, were instrumental in leading to British occupation of Egypt in 1882.
