After University College school, Hampstead, he went to work at Twickenham studios, eventually becoming a cameraman, an early notable credit being Michael Powell's semi-documentary The Edge of the World (1937).
The Treasure of Monte Cristo is a 1961 British film directed by Monty Berman and Robert S. Baker. The film features Rory Calhoun as an army captain in 1815 who goes off in search of a treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. It is a prequel to Alexandre Dumas' 1844 novel The Count of Monte Cristo.

Monty Berman. Producer. 16 August 1913 to 13 June 2006. London-born Berman began as a cinematographer, working on Michael Powell's The Edge of the World (1937). He formed Tempean Films with Robert S. Baker in 1948 and produced many 'B' movies throughout the 50s.
