Puffin Books. Puffin Books is a longstanding children's imprint of the British publishers Penguin Books. Since the 1960s, it has been among the largest publishers of children's books in the UK and much of the English-speaking world. [1] The imprint now belongs to Penguin Random House, a subsidiary of the German media conglomerate Bertelsmann .
Puffin began in England in 1941 when Allen Lane, publisher of Penguin Books, and Noel Carrington, a publisher of natural history books, teamed up to produce the first line of quality paperbacks for children. Puffin USA didn’t get its start until 1978, when Penguin acquired Viking Kestrel and Viking’s paperback line, Seafarer Books.
