The Ultimate Universe version of Iron Man originally made his debut in 2001's Ultimate Marvel Team Up #4. In this series, Tony was a child prodigy who created the Iron Man Armor in adulthood as a bio-mechanical solution to stop his brain tumor.
Biography. Blessed and cursed with extraordinary genius, Tony Stark is the son of inventor and defense contractor Howard Stark, and geneticist & educator Maria Stark. The Starks were developing a biological personal armor coating when a lab accident with a regenerative virus fatally infected Maria.
The character is the Ultimate Marvel version of the superhero Iron Man, who first appeared in the fourth issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Mike Allred. He later appeared in the Ultimates and often appears in other Ultimate Marvel titles.
