They were best friends for over 65 years. His two children, Andy Griffith Jr. and Dixie Griffith, were from his first of three wives, Barbara Griffith, as they decided to be parents, by adoption. Old friend Dick Van Dyke guest-starred on the debut pilot episode of Matlock (1986).
