The Story. of Bishop’s Stortford College. Start Exploring. 1868. The College was founded by prominent East Anglian Nonconformists. It opened its doors to just 40 pupils. Our first Head was the Reverend Richard Alliott who led the school for 31 years. The school only had five Head of Colleges during its first one hundred years! 1890.

BSC International Summer School. In keeping with the College’s history and mission for growth and development, we are delighted to be partnering with Experio Summer to provide an international summer school for overseas’ students aged 8-17 in July and August.
The most recent developments to take the college firmly into the new millennium were the building of a £2.3m swimming pool, opened in October 2002, and the Ferguson Building, completed in June 2006. The latter, facing onto Maze Green Road and built on the site of a former maintenance yard, was named in memory of Professor John Ferguson, an eminent former pupil.
