Cao Xueqin (1715 o 1724 – 1763 o 1764) è stato uno scrittore cinese, autore de Il sogno della camera rossa, uno dei quattro grandi romanzi della letteratura cinese classica. Cao Xueqin (1715-1763) was a great writer in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). His personal name was Zhan, and his style name Mengruan. His representative workA Dream of Red Mansionswas written in the latter half of the 18th century, which is not only a great Chinese novel but also a gem of world literature.

Dream of the Red Chamber or The Story of the Stone is an 18th-century Chinese novel authored by Cao Xueqin, considered to be one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. It is known for its psychological scope and its observation of the worldview, aesthetics, lifestyles, and social relations of High Qing China.
