Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a 1998 American stoner road black comedy film adapted from Hunter S. Thompson's 1971 novel of the same name. It was co-written and directed by Terry Gilliam, and stars Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro as Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo, respectively.
Like Duke, Dr. Gonzo’s contempt for law enforcement and love for illegal drugs makes him an obvious symbol of the 1960s countercultural movement, but he also represents the violence of mainstream American society.
